LEDiL and LED iBond create state of the art lighting for the Deichman library in Oslo

“We chose LEDiL’s optics because we were able to meet the advanced requirements for the light distributions on the underlying shelf, books, art and other objects that should be highlighted in the overall shelving solution in an efficient and qualitative way. LEDiL’s optics were of great importance for us to be able to develop an advanced and unique LED product.”

Lars Frederiksen, CTO & Co-founder of LED iBond International

Project

The Deichman is a brand new state of the art multi-media library in Bjørvika Oslo, Norway. Representing the cutting edge of library design, Oslo city council wanted an innovative lighting solution for the shelving system to complement the overall design aesthetic and showcase the varied cultural offering in a modern and innovative way.

Solution

LED iBond won the tender and together with LEDiL, developed a solution that included minimalist and aesthetic optics. They selected LEDiL TINA2 as these optics fit seamlessly into an intelligent shelving solution that has adjustable beam angles, enabling the light to be focused at books, objects and magazines. The settings are fully adjustable and dimmable and are controlled by NFC (Near Field Communication) technology in mobile devices such as tablets and mobile phones. The shelf lighting is controlled via the library building management system and future IoT integration is also possible if desired.

Benefits

The use of LEDiL’s TINA2 optics ensured the light is exactly where it should be, making this a highly energy-efficient lighting implementation and creating a very comfortable glare free environment. The shelving is made from high quality scratch resistant brushed anodised aluminium which also acts as an efficient heat conductor, giving a long service life of over 100,000 burning hours. The burn rate of the lights is truly unique, meaning the library received both a flexible as well as highly energy-efficient, shelving solution. The lighting in this cutting edge implementation is in line with the overall sustainability focus: long lifetime and service life in combination with energy efficiency and efficient light control help to deliver desired results.
