Project
Elettronica Tirrito srl was tasked with providing the lighting for a new sports hall developed on the site of an old indoor tennis court in Enna, a town on the island of Sicily, southern Italy. The old court had been in a general state of disrepair due to lack of use and was no longer fit for purpose.
The project goal was to create a lighting solution for a new build facility that would allow for multi-purpose use, promoting equal opportunities and social inclusion for all. One key requirement was for the lighting to comply with CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) regulations for competitive activities at national and international indoor level. This specifies average illumination greater than 750 lux, and uniformity greater than 0.7.
Solution
Elettronica Tirrito used DiaLux software to create the lighting design. The solution involved using 24 Vega Floodlights arranged in 4 rows at different heights to compensate for the differing height of the curved roof of the new building. Each Vega floodlight was fitted with LEDiL HB-2X2-W, calibrated to a different maximum power, in order to obtain the required high level of uniform illumination.
Benefits
The end result is a highly efficient, low glare lighting with optimal light distributions for the space. Thanks to the DALI dimmer controller, designed by Elettronica Tirrito, the led driver of each floodlight can be set individually to specific power levels (30%, 50%, 75%, 100%) simply by toggling the switch. This all combines to deliver a level of brightness and power levels that make the space suitable for a variety of different types of court sports.
